Product Description
B&D Ergo 3-Cup Chopper

Amazon.com Review
This electric food chopper accomplishes a food processor's principal function of chopping and mincing without having to haul out the big machine. It's just 8 inches high and 4-3/4 inches in diameter, and its 3-cup bowl is ample for many chores in a family household and most chores in a one or two-person household. At 150 watts, the motor is powerful enough to chop or mince vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, nuts, chocolate, cooked meats, and bread. The power head has a soft grip for easy one-handed use. The rugged, plastic bowl; its slip-resistant base, which doubles as the bowl's lid for storing food; and the stainless-steel blade are all dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars Quick & Easy!   October 23, 2005

Ever wish you could chop up an onion in 2 seconds? It's possible with this little beauty. Instant bread crumbs? No sweat! How about shaved ice? It's a snap!

The Black & Decker EHC650 Ergo 3-Cup Food Chopper is unlike anything I have used before. It's SAFE and EASY to use. The best part is the clean-up: There really isn't any. It has only three parts! There's the cup, the powerful blade that slips into the cup, and the ergonomic top. The top is actually the motor - and it fits comfortably in your hand.

It's so easy to use:T
Step 1: Take the one-pound chopper off the shelf.
Step 2: Take off the cover and fill the container.
Step 3: Put the cover on and push one of the two buttons (one's fast and one's slow).

Two settings - fast-pulse and slow-pulse - give you flexibility in how coarse you want your food to be chopped. It even purees!

The see-through container lets you see the food as it is being chopped.

Don't need all those chopped onions right now? Use what you need then pop the handy lid on the container and store it in your fridge.

I highly recommend this product based on its easy of use and ease of clean-up.

This is the best electric food chopper I ever used.

5 out of 5 stars To Use It Is To Love It, and easy clean up of all parts   October 27, 2004

Two years ago I bought the Black & Decker KEC600 Cordless Can Opener. Another super highly recommended item. It is inexpensive, powerful, and convenient. It is cordless and sits in a reharging station, then you can take it to anywhere in the kitchen. After two years, the rechargeable battery finally started to get weak. So I ordered another one.
While browsing in the Black and Decker area, I came across this B&D Ergo 3 cup food chopper. Based on the reviews, I decided to give it a try. Now I don't know which one I like... no, love better. I use it to make fresh custom salad dressing. No more hand chopping garlic, now I fine chop it before sautéing for making sauce. The list is endless.
I have a 90 year old mother I take care of. When she complains about the food not being tender enough, I drop it in the chopper, the razor sharp blades spin at the slow or fast speed, and out comes a beautiful puree. A quick pop into the micro to freshen up the heating, and she loves it.
I'm ordering another chopper. Why? Because I don't ever want to go without it. Since it is a plug in the wall device, it wil probably last for 20 years. If mine gets dropped and breaks, I don't want to take a chance on not having one. Anything this good doesn't last. It is just too great of an item for such a little bit of money. Additionally, I like the fact that it comes with a removable flexible bottom, that doubles as a lid when you want to put your blendings in the refrig, without having to scoop them out.
One reviewer commented that they wish they would offer the bottom container as a separate item because it would be convenient, to have more than one. My logic is that for this kind of money, buy two. All bases are covered that way. The increased flexibility is worth it.
One other comment, worth mentioning, is that the top which houses the motor is easy to clean, even though their are those who complain, that it is not submersible. I have been washing mine by turning it upside down, soaping, and then running it under hot water, while spinning it around. The water pouring only hits the underdside of the center on out, and easily pours over the outer lip, without ever getting anywhere near the on off switch, or other sensitive to water areas. That makes even the top easy to clean. The rest of the chopper is submersible, or dish washer safe. Additionally the blade is easily removable from the base, simply by pushing down on it, while giving it a quarter turn. Up it pops, ready for removal and easy cleaning. Great for cleaning the 3 qt base also. No blades stuck in the bottom, making it difficult to clean.
The Black and Decker seems to be leading the pack with a three quart chopper, instead of the 1 1/2 qt like the competition. The 3 quart makes it large enough to not have to use a full size blender, yet small enough to use regularly, without the additional clean up. In addition it is a lot lighter to move around.
It is also attractively designed, and the buttons are ergonomically designed.
Overall I can't recommend this chopper enough. If your looking for something else to buy, to take advantage of Amazons minimum purchase amount to qualify for free shipping, consider buying the Black and Decker cordless can opener. The KEC600 model is the one that I have and is getting the better reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Best small gadget in my kitchen   April 1, 2003

This chopper was rated number one of several by Fine Cooking magazine so I ordered one. It is the best small appliance in my kitchen and I use it almost daily for all sorts of things. It will mix small quantities just like a food processer and chops very well. It is perfect for making bread crumbs and parmesan cheese out of the big block. It will finely chop herbs as long as they a well dried. I love it for everything and have to give one to each of my friends and 3 sisters. It is very easy to clean and re-assemble.

I have joint and muscle ailments that make chopping foods a challenge so I have owned small choppers since they first appeared on the market. Most of these choppers have a small piece on the plastic lid that must lock into the base in order for the chopper to work - a wise safety device, but that piece broke off my first 2 choppers and replacement lids were not available.

When I was shopping for my third chopper 2.5 years ago, I found this one at a local discount retailer. I was immediately struck my two things: 1) it is made in such a way that there are fewer important small plastic parts to break off and 2) the ergonomic top and controls are infinitely easier on my hands than my previous choppers. The dual speeds have also proven to be a great advantage, providing more options of how finely to chop foods. I have happily used this chopper for 30 months and have recommended it to my similiarly "hand-challenged" friends. I am still amazed by how comfortable the top of this chopper is and how gentle to my hands the controls are.

I have not found cleaning the underside of the top to be a problem. I use a wet soapy dishcloth to wipe it off well, using an old toothbrush on any areas that might need scrubbing. Then a quick rinse of the underside ONLY of the top and it's clean. No problem - much easier to clean than the bases of the more common small chopper shape - and when you use choppers as much as I do, you find yourself cleaning them a lot!
